AutoSlide Pocket Door InstallationUpdated a year ago
The AutoSlide system utilizes a track & pinion mechanism that is perfect for retrofitting onto pocket doors.
Initial resources:
For the most part, installing an AutoSlide onto a pocket door is the same as installing onto a patio door - with the exception of two primary differences:
- For a full opening, the system must be slightly inset into the wall of the pocket. Otherwise, about 2" of opening width will be lost.
- In some cases, a channel must be cut/routed for the AutoSlide track.

Track Routing
There are three options for track installation when using the track & pinion system on a pocket door:
Slim Tracks
AutoSlide offers specialized slim tracks, which can be substituted for regular tracks prior to ordering upon request. These tracks are designed with a thinner side profile to help them fit into the narrow gap between the surface of the pocket door panel and the pocket it slides into.
Route Wall
If the gap is too narrow for a slim track to fit, a channel will need to be cut for the track to slide into when the door opens. This is shown in the example video given at the top of this article, where a channel is cut into the wall of the pocket for the tracks to slide into.
Route Door
If it is not possible to route out a channel in the wall of the pocket, a channel could also be cut into the panel itself (as long as the pocket door panel is solid core and not hollow). This can be used in tandem with an extended motor gear (to have full engagement with the track).
