Physical Obstruction With Sliding DoorUpdated 2 years ago
If there appears to be a physical obstruction to the door while it is opening from the AutoSlide or MultiDrive, immediately power the system off.
Isolating Obstruction
Manually close the door fully.
- If your AutoSlide/MultiDrive is mounted at the top of the door, push/pull your sliding panel from the top.
- If your AutoSlide is mounted at the bottom of the door, push/pull your sliding panel from the bottom.
- Do not use the door handle to open and close the door.
Following the guideline above, manually push your door open. Try to open the door at approximately the speed the AutoSlide opens when the issue occurs. Feel for any changes in how the door slides; spots of increased friction or drag, bumps, etc.
Close the door fully, and repeat the above step except now opening the door at a steady, constant speed. Manually pull the door closed and back open around the spot where you suspect the obstruction is, feeling for any spots of increased drag or physical obstructions.
Usually (but not always) the physical obstruction can be felt using the above method. From there, it tends to be easier to locate and resolve the obstruction.
Common Causes
General tips include:
- Make sure the bottom door track is clean and free of debris.
- Ensure the rollers of the door and the bottom door track are in good condition, not bent or warped.
- Look for any pebbles in the door track, or loose nails/screws that the panel could catch on.
- Raise the sliding panel using its height adjustment screws. Be sure to raise the panel by equal amounts on its left and right, to keep the panel level (e.g. one turn on the left screw, one turn on the right screw).
- Lubricate the bottom of the door track with silicone or aluminium lubricant. Do not use a water displacement lubricant such as WD-40. This could damage your door's hardware over time.
If none of the above apply or seem to help, contact a door maintenance technician to have the door serviced.
