Which Do I Need?

The best way to determine which system would work best for your door is to measure your door's drag weight. This is the maximum amount of force needed to fully open and fully close your door. This includes any extra force needed to fully close your door into a tight weatherseal.

There are two ways to measure your door's drag weight:

  1. You can use a luggage scale or fish scale (the type with a hook), which are available at any local hardware store. Attach the hook to your door's handle, and use it to fully open and close the door (including in and out of the weatherseal). The maximum reading on this scale is your door's drag weight. This must stay under 12lbs to use the Standard.
  2. You can also use an AutoSlide Test Strip. These Test Strips are included with all AutoSlide Standard systems. We also mail out Test Strips for free upon request. If you'd like a Test Strip sent to you, please email us at [email protected].

What if I Purchase/Install the Standard but Need the Elite?

If you purchase the Standard system but - upon using the included test strip - find that the door has too high of a drag weight for your system, contact us immediately prior to installing any components of the system. We provide options to swap out the unit and upgrade to an Elite model.

If a Standard system is installed onto a door needing the Elite system, this can result in excessive stress and damage from heavy load on the external gear or internal gears of the motor. This can lead to behavior such as:

  • Slow laborious operation
  • Being unable to fully open or fully close the door
  • Reversing back open when closing or reversing back closed when opening
  • Not opening or closing the door smoothly
  • Internal grinding noises from within the motor (not to be confused with external grinding of the black motor gear with the AutoSlide track)
  • Failure to move the door

We do not credit back the return of a failed Standard motor if damaged from installation onto too heavy of a door. If you notice that, upon installation of a Standard system, the door is slow to open and close or seems to be unable to fully open/close the door despite not having any binding or grinding issues, please reach out to us for support to see if an Elite is required.

What Version Do I Have?
