New Tag Not Pairing to Existing Sensor BoxUpdated a year ago
If you're attempting to pair a new RFID K9 tag or iOpen tag to an already installed and operational tag sensor box, but are experiencing issues, begin by confirming the tag and the sensor box are the same version (V1 or V2).
RFID Tag:
Hold down the button on the RFID tag for at least 10 seconds. Note that you may need to hold the button down at an angle to get the press to register.
- If the blue LED at the corner of the tag begins to flash in a sequence - one flash, two flashes, three flashes, one flash, etc. - then the tag is V1.
- If the blue LED at the corner of the tag turns on solid, the tag is V2.
Alternatively, if the tag has an FCC sticker on the back or says "2.0" on the back, it's a V2 tag.
Tag Sensor Box:
With all tags out of range of the sensor box and the system powered on, observe the oval status light on the front.
- If the light is on solid blue, the tag sensor box is V1.
- If there is no light on at all, the tag sensor box is V2.
The tag(s) and the tag sensor box must be the same version for the tag(s) to pair properly. Be sure to follow the correct pairing process for each version.
- For Version 1 tag sets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1Jpx36fyBE (begin at 4:10)
- For Version 2 tag sets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1lhBAMPiBU (begin at 7:50)
If the tag and tag receiver are the same version, but the tag still can't pair to the tag receiver, check the following:
- During the pairing process, when pressing the button on the tag, click the tag button multiple times in quick succession. Ensure the tag flashes blue when pressed.
- Clear the cache in the tag sensor box. This will remove all tags previously paired to it. Working tags that were previously paired can then be paired again, along with the new tag(s). To clear the cache, follow the instructions in Step 6 here for Version 1 or Page 5 here for Version 2.
- Replace the battery in the tag
- For Version 2 tag sets, ensure all other tags are out of range when pairing a single tag
Also ensure the tag distance is set properly; a new tag may be set to the minimum distance, in which case it'll only work anywhere from a few inches to 3' away.
- To set a Version 1 tag's distance: press and hold down the button on the tag. Once it starts to flash in sequence, release after one flash for 3', two flashes for 6', or three flashes for 10'.
- To set a Version 2 tag's distance: take the tag to the physical distance you want it to activate at. Ensure any other tags are out of range. Press and hold the tag button until the tag light comes on solid blue. Release the tag button. The tag should flash once, then set itself to the distance it's held at from the tag sensor box.
