The IR (Infrared) sensor works by picking up the heat given off by a target in its line of detection. Through this, the IR sensor can be used either for humans or for pets.To configure the IR sensor for either human or pet, open the IR sensor and locate the small sensor switch as seen below:<img src="https://attachments.gorgias.help/uploads.gorgias.io/0l9dY2VKggd7rZkL/undefined-099d36d9-f061-4ad0-9479-c5b6bc6fc64c" style="width: 300px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib">Setting this switch to Human will allow the IR sensor to activate the Outside Sensor input. This will allow it to work in Green Mode and in Pet Mode (if the Secure Pet Mode setting is turned off) to open the door to the human opening width.Setting this switch to Pet will allow the IR sensor to activate the Pet Sensor input. This will allow it to work in Pet Mode to open to the programmed pet opening width. It will also double as a safety reversal when the system is activated by an enabled input in Green Mode, Red Mode, or Blue Mode.Currently, the wireless IR sensor cannot activate the Inside Sensor input.

The AutoSlide wireless/hardwired IR (Infrared) sensor operate by detecting the body heat of a person or animal, and thus can be falsely activated if sunlight shines directly into (or strongly enough reflects into) the sensor. To prevent false triggers,<ul><li style="font-size: 16px;">Avoid placing the sensor in areas with exposure to direct sunlight; the IR sensor works best in shaded areas such as under an awning.</li><li style="font-size: 16px;">Aim the sensor away from sunlight. Take into account the sun&apos;s position at sunrise and sunset.</li><li style="font-size: 16px;">If the ground is highly reflective or white in color and has exposure to direct sunlight, consider aiming the IR sensor away from the ground and instead directing it horizontally across the door opening.</li><li style="font-size: 16px;">When first mounting the IR sensor, it is recommended to use double-sided tape to play with multiple positions and orientations. After finding a suitable mounting position for the sensor, secure it either with mounting tape or screws.</li><li style="font-size: 16px;">Power the IR sensor off and on to recalibrate it (applies to IR sensors released after 2021 only). After powered on, it will automatically calibrate to the closest object in front of it (or roughly 4.5&apos; from the sensor)</li><li style="font-size: 16px;">Put a new battery in the IR sensor. Low and near-dead batteries can occasionally result in false triggers. Each wireless IR sensor takes a single 9V lithium battery.</li></ul>If the infrared sensors still exhibit false triggers, please contact us. A better alternative may be our microwave motion sensors or our RFID tag set.

If the IR (Infrared) sensor works to activate the AutoSlide system, but detects people/pets at too short or too far of a distance, the activation range can be adjusted by powering off and on the sensor.*Begin by removing the IR sensor&apos;s cover and powering it off at the switch at the side. Ensure the IR is in the desired mounting position, or on a flat surface looking into at least 5&apos; of empty space.Power the IR sensor on using the same switch at the side. The IR sensor should begin to blink. Immediately position your torso in front of the sensor at the desired max activation distance, or move to the side of the IR sensor so you&apos;re out of its detection beam.After approximately 8 seconds, the light on the IR sensor will begin to flash rapidly. After a few more seconds, the IR sensor will calibrate to the closest object in front of it (or about 4.5&apos; maximum if there&apos;s no object in front of it). The blue light on the IR sensor should then turn off. Test the IR sensor by walking towards and away from it around the desired activation point.Note that whenever power is turned off and turned back on to the IR sensor, it will automatically recalibrate. A common mistake is powering on the IR sensors while standing directly in front of them, and failing to move to the side in time. This causes the IR sensor to calibrate to the closest object in front of it (usually the person&apos;s torso or head) and only work at a short distance.*Older versions of infrared sensor have a dial on the side, which can be used to increase or decrease the range.
